A Comedy waiting for a Tragedy

Comedy sketch: Aliens are instructed by their high command to intervene on earth to prevent a thermo-nuclear-holocaust.  They meet the USA chain of command, Biden, Harris, Pelosi, Blinken and Austin. They then meet Putin of Russia and Xi Jinping of China.  They immediately report back to their leaders.  “No chance of a settlement. One side appears to be fermented pickled fruit, and the other side is hard boiled eggs”.

The fermented pickled fruit in the west engages in dishonest spin-doctoring in managing a crisis.  The west is restrained by dishonesty leading to diverse public opinions and decision-making is thus far more complicated.  The hard-boiled eggs have the advantage of greater control over their local media.  They do not have to compete with conflicting internal opinions because they can easily close down the opposition perspectives.   The result is that the hard-boiled eggs can be decisive and strategic.  The fruits are confused and confusing.

Oswald Spengler in his book “Decline of the West’ talks about the cyclical decline and rise of civilizations and he suggests that the west is in decline.  The type of hypocrisy that leads to decline is illustrated by the actions of US Assistant Secretary of State, Victoria Nuland. On March 8th, 2022, in a Congressional setting and in answer to Senator Mark Rubio she said: “We are working with the Ukrainians with biological research facilities, and we (Americans) are quite concerned that Russian troops are seeking to gain control of the research materials ………”  I believe that Nuland inadvertently let the cat out of the bag.

The reasoning and rationale for USA involvement with Ukraine is a matter for debate and people of good faith can disagree.  However, in my opinion, the fact that the USA now entirely ignores the Victoria Nuland testimony is double standards on a grand scale.  I cannot condone this.

Important to remember it was in 2000 when Vladimir Putin requested that Russia become a member of NATO.  He rightly believed Russia was a special case and did not want his government to have to go through the usual application process. 

Extract: “Putin said: ‘When are you going to invite us to join Nato?”  George Robertson who led NATO at the time replied: ‘Well, we don’t invite people to join NATO, they apply to join NATO.’  Putin replied, “Well, we’re not standing in line with a lot of countries that don’t matter.”   

Putin spoke to the late David Frost in a BBC interview shortly before he was first inaugurated as Russian president, more than 21 years ago.  He said he would not rule out joining NATO “if and when Russia’s views are taken into account as those of an equal partner”.  He told Frost it was hard for him to visualise NATO as an enemy. “Russia is part of the European culture. And I cannot imagine my own country in isolation from Europe and what we often call the civilised world.”

His overtures were rebuffed.  Spurned by the west, Russia was forced to consider a change of strategy.  It looked eastwards for allies and courted China and Iran.   A huge opportunity for world peace had been squandered because of the career aspirations of NATO and DC ‘swamp-dwellers’.  Had western politicians been doing what was in the interests of world peace, surely they should have been more welcoming. Putin tried to persuade western leaders that militant Islam was the common enemy both power-blocks needed to confront. With Russia in NATO, the western alliance would have been immeasurably enforced. 

In trying to better understand why this happened I consulted an expert on the subject.   Retired Professor Eric Louw is the author of the book ‘The Roots of the Pax Americana’.  He places the blame squarely at the feet of the DC swamp, the faceless but powerful federal bureaucrats who service the US Congressional representatives and the special interest groups.

Therein lie the Russian ‘experts’ in the DC swamp who are well entrenched in the State Department and the Intelligence Services.  He argues that the swamp was threatened by redundancy in the event there was a rapprochement with Moscow. The swamp needed conflict; Russia had to be provoked, how else could they keep their jobs?  Constitutionally speaking, politicians still had to ‘sign-off’ on any major decisions.  However, in a de facto sense, decision-making was reduced to the swamp level. This is the situation that must be reversed. Trump tried but failed. Like me Eric is in despair. 

Like many of us he sees the mainstream media as unfit for purpose. The recent admission by the New York Times and high ranking members of the intelligence community that the existence of the Hunter Biden laptop, containing evidence of illicit business dealings between the Biden family and the Ukrainian government, was not in fact ‘Russian disinformation’ is a case in point.

Eric observes that in modern times the outsourcing of journalism has lowered the standards to such an extent that reporting has become sloppy, unethical, self-serving and downright dishonest. As veracity has dissipated the power of the social media titans has increased exponentially.

Academia has accepted and embraced the theory of postmodernism into its educational framework.  The result is Hollywood type celebrity prognostications and a Greta Thunberg type of scientific knowledge.  An example of the power of an out of control and incompetent media, is the undermining of the USA body politic, especially of sound politicians. Many argue that the political demise of Donald J. Trump was facilitated by a 96% unfavourable media reportage.  This went on throughout his presidency by the willful dissemination of false information.  No wonder people of integrity are afraid to enter the political arena. Eric believes the Ukraine war is a manifestation of overall incompetence and over-reach.

What has the future to offer?  I refuse to discuss details of what happens during a thermonuclear conflagration.  It gives me the heebie-jeebies. 

Assuming the November 6th, USA midterm elections produce results that are dispositive enough to render the despicable Democrat Party neutered.   Then we all have a future.  Again, I will assume that the 2024 USA General Elections will return a GOP POTUS from out of the MAGA Movement; the future could be bright if bridges are repaired with Russia and China.  It will be a different world but hopefully a safer overall world.
